DEMO: Barbara Berry - Spellbinding Snowscapes in Pastel

In this workshop, Barbara will guide students in exploring the use of contrast as a key in creating a dynamic snowscape painting. Participants will learn how contrast can generate movement, enhance clarity, and strengthen the impact of their work. Through thoughtful value design, bold color relationships, and intentional variations in scale and edge control, students will develop strategies for replacing unnecessary detail with clear purposeful structure.

Supply List for Workshop:

• ​Lux Archival sanded paper at least 11"x 14". It can be economical to buy larger paper and cut them into smaller pieces. OR, Uart sanded pastel paper - preferably 320-400 grade tooth papers.​​​

• A sturdy panel on which to tape the paper.

• Soft pastels including violets, pinks, blues, yellows, and whites. Include various darks and lights from each hue. It's good to have neutral gray colors, too.

• Bring your own photos of snow in the landscape. The best time to capture good shadow shapes is early to mid-morning, or late afternoon under clear skies.
