APPLICATION FOR DVAL MEMBERSHIP

DVAL Membership applications are available online and at all general meetings. 

DVAL membership is open to persons 18 years of age and older with two possible categories: Associate or Full. All new members are designated Associate Members (A).  To become a Full member an artist must successfully pass the DVAL Internal Review process.  Full members (F) are eligible to submit work to both juried and non-juried shows. 

To be reinstated after an absence of 5 years or more, a former member must reapply as a new (Associate) Member, regardless of former status, and must successfully pass the DVAL Internal Review Process to become a full member.

INTERNAL REVIEW: 

The Internal Review Committee will meet at least two times a year, dates and times to be announced.  The Chairperson will provide directions for new members who wish to participate.  (Note, the Internal Review process was reinstated on November 1, 2017 and applies to anyone who joined DVAL after that date.) 

​The Internal Review serves to maintain high art standards at DVAL. During Internal Review, a jury of five accredited artists will evaluate a new Associate Member's work by a point system in the following areas:

  • Drawing

  • Composition

  • Originality

  • Impact overall/Mastery of medium

  • Presentation

Once an Associate Member successfully passes the DVAL Review, he or she is eligible to immediately submit work to DVAL juried shows and automatically becomes a Full Member.  Members should contact our IR Chairperson or Membership Chairperson to ask questions about their status.

​FULL MEMBERS:

Full Members are eligible to submit work to all DVAL sponsored shows, juried and non-juried. Full members are also invited to link their professional website to the DVAL web page. Art- related specific information, such as a member exhibit, may be posted on our DVAL Facebook Page after vetting by the President and Facebook Coordinator.

​MEMBER PRIVILEGES AND FEES:

All members are eligible to attend meetings, workshops, hold office, serve on committees, and vote. is a volunteer run organization. All members are asked to serve in some capacity.

New members may join at any time to participate as a member in the current calendar year. There is a $25 Joiner Fee and a $40 dues charge for a first year membership. Renewal membership payments are due by January 1 (in advance for the upcoming year).  Dues are $40 for returning members ($20 for Board Members) if paid in advance by January 1.  Returning members who pay dues after the due date incur a late fee of $10. Due to the holiday season, we will allow a grace period for dues payment until January 31. Therefore, dues for returning members after January 31 are $50. 

All members in good standing by June 1 of any year are listed in the annual Handbook/Membership Directory.  Members receive a current Handbook/Membership Directory each year during late summer. The Membership Directory, along with our schedule of events and any updates, are also available on the DVAL website.  Members need password access to our online membership list

WELCOMING COMMITTEE:

This is a program designed to ensure that new members feel welcome and are made aware of all DVAL has to offer. Each new member will have the option to be paired with a current member who will introduce them to other members and answer any questions they may have concerning the DVAL policies, procedures and activities. New members will be contacted by Ruth Detwiler, the Welcoming Committee Coordinator.

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH INCENTIVE:

Any member who brings in a new paid member will get a $5.00 DVAL coupon redeemable for workshops, entry fees, membership dues, etc. Good for the year of issue, coupons will be available at all general meetings. Please contact Pat Riley, “Each One Bring One” Coordinator, for additional information.
